Apple Cider Spice Cocktail

Thanksgiving is my jam.  I love spending all day in the kitchen cooking with people I love.  It’s fun and tasty.  Also, this holiday features all of my favorite foods…side dish heaven.  My sis-in-law Lauren usually brings the fixings to make a killer cocktail and this year’s was fab.  Made us feel all warm and toasty while we were cooking!

you will need:
18 ounces apple juice
6 cinnamon sticks
6 star anise pods
18 ounces good quality vodka
6 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon
12 oz. bottle of sparking water
apple slices, for garnish

In a small saucepan,  simmer the apple juice with the cinnamon sticks and star anise pods. When it barely comes to a boil, remove from heat, cover and let steep for 30 minutes.  Pour mixture into a pitcher or jar and chill for a couple of hours or overnight.

When your’e ready to start making cocktails, remove the cinnamon sticks and star anise and set aside for garnish.  Working in batches, use a cocktail shaker full of ice, add the spiced apple juice, vodka & lemon.  Shake well, then pour into glasses.  Add a splash of sparkling water, and garnish with apple slices, cinnamon sticks and star anise pods.
