Banana Chocolate Almond Smoothie {dairy free}

I’ve been getting up later and later as the school year has progressed.  I have absolutely no time in the morning to do anything other than get myself ready and out the door.  I am lucky if I grab anything for breakfast other than an iced coffee.  Sometimes I manage to grab a yogurt or some chex cereal.  So, needless to say, smoothies have not been on the breakfast menu of late.

As of Friday, summer break is officially here!  I have never wanted my summer break more than this year.  I am really looking forward to 7 weeks with Connor.  Just doing the every day stuff with him, instead of packing a whole day’s worth of loving into only 3 hours.  Slower mornings eating and talking with my little guy will be awesome.  I can make us some delicious meals and focus on feeding my body healthy, wholesome foods.  Carrying him around in the Ergo while I shop in the Strip…it’s going to be just glorious.

I picked up a big box of chocolate almond milk at Costco for next to no moolah.  I love a great deal I tell ya!  So now I am trying to think of ways to use it.  This smoothie was some weekend inspiration.  I’m not usually a fan of chocolate in my morning drinks, but I liked this one.  Filled me up for the morning, which is always good!
smoothie Don’t you love the toys in the background?  The best light in the house is usually in the playroom, and Connor thinks my set up is all for him to play with.  Silly goose.  So this is all I could get before the meltdown started, and then I just drank the smoothie. #bloggerphotofail

you will need:
1 cup chocolate almond milk
1 large banana, frozen
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 tablespoon protein powder (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  If your banana isn’t frozen, just add a handful of ice cubes to chill and thicken it up.

*I always use my immersion blender, and this is the perfect amount for the little cup that it comes with.  I always just make enough for me, so I prefer to use the immersion blender.  Clean up is much easier and I don’t have extra to store.
