Good Eats: Union Pig & Chicken

Have you eaten at Union Pig & Chicken?
If so, you already understand my obsession.  If not, get your butt there ASAP.  It’s amazing.

We’ve tried a lot of items on the menu over several visits for lunch and dinner: brisket, pork, ribs, fried chicken, mac & cheese, coleslaw and cornbread.  Friends, it’s all good.  I love the coleslaw; get it every time.  And it’s a tie between the brisket sandwich and the fried chicken (dark meat of course) for the best main course item.  I’d say it’s the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted.

They also feature a nice selection of beers and cocktails, as well as a tasty list of nonalcoholic options.  I about died when I saw Cheerwine on the menu.  A teacher friend of mine, from North Carolina, introduced me to it a few years back.  Reminds me of a cross between cream soda and cherokee red…basically mainlining cane sugar.  Ahhhmazing, and quite difficult to find in a yankee state like Pennsylvania.

We look for any excuse to eat here: happen to be in the neighborhood, friends visiting, living only 10 minutes away, have a hankering for large amounts of meat…we find reasons.
