Restaurant Review: Founding Farmers

Hi Everyone!  Sorry for the lapse in posting…still transitioning for the big move, but I do have a new restaurant review for you tonight!

A D.C. favorite of mine is Founding Farmers located in the Foggy Bottom area at Pennsylvania and 20th – equidistant to both Farragut West & Foggy Bottom metro stops. This farm-fresh and trend-filled establishment – think barn chic with industrial accents – is a great place to meet friends for drinks and to grab a bite to eat on a weeknight.  It is always bursting at the seams with eager diners and usually there is quite a wait to get a table, but the bar is lively and fun while you are waiting.  I met three of my lovely girl friends for a weeknight celebration of sorts (birthdays, new jobs, life changes, etc.) and this was the perfect spot.

gal pals!

Founding Farmers offers a modern twist on comfort food, keeps their price points reasonable, and offers an eco-friendly and LEED certified dining experience, not to mention boats a fantastic and innovative array of libations.  Owned by the North Dakota Farmers Union, the menu offers items that are made in-house, along with musings from farms, fisheries and meat purveyors in Pennsylvania and West Virginia as well as Maine and Wisconsin.

Some of the drinks & dishes we enjoyed:
-Skillet Corn Bread with honey butter – $5 – perfect to share among the table
-Sauteed PEI Mussels with chorizo and white wine-pesto broth – $14 – good to share or for one person to have as their meal, extremely delicious!
-Late Harvest Salad – $7 for small or $14 for large – nice flavors, fresh ingredients
-Macaroni & Cheese (gouda, Gruyère, ham, peas & apples) – $14 – rich and decadent classic with a fun and flavorful twist
-very nice offering of steaks – $18-$28 depending on the cut – cooked perfectly with flavorful accompaniments
-Favorite libations – Farmers Fizz, The Clementine, Cucumber Delight & Fraise Fling – $12 each

sampling of our food & drink choices

I would definitely recommend stopping by this trendy foodie spot for at least a fun cocktail with friends…I am fairly certain after one look at what the tables are being served you will want to sit down and try some too!
