Summer Restaurant Week Blogger Dinner: The Porch at Schenley

While this post is coming at quite a delay, it is most definitely worth sharing!  Back in August I ate my way through Pittsburgh’s Restaurant Week and even attended their Food Blogger Dinner!  The chosen restaurant was a new-ish spot, The Porch at Schenley, which is located right in the heart of Oakland. It’s a great city spot, looking out over the hustle and bustle as well as the lovely scenery of Schenley Park.

Like many Pittsburgh restaurants these days, The Porch focuses on sourcing ingredients locally.  This spot sets themselves apart by featuring a sizable rooftop garden for many herbs and veggies as well as their own honeybees.

While us bloggers were paying customers just like everyone else, we did get to enjoy a few fun perks.  We got to hang out and chat with Chef Kevin Hermann, tour the rooftop garden, and enjoy 2 complimentary beverages from the bar.  It was also a blast to meet fun food bloggers.

The menu included…

Blueberry Lavender Smash featuring Wigle Whiskey (I’ve been dying to go on a tour!)

Keystone Farm Beef Tartare

Cunningham Farm Pork Saltimbocca

Chocolate Blueberry Pie

All in all, I enjoyed my meal.  The portions were extremely generous and the flavors were fresh and authentic, and dessert was exceptional.  I’m looking forward to heading back for happy hour to munch on some of the delicious looking pizza and try more drinks.  I’ve heard that brunch is pretty fab, too.

Also, check out great posts by fellow Burgh bloggers at Beezus Kiddo and With the Grains!
